"Aculeus XVIII" interior
Without using mods players are currently limited to using the lootable items in our inventory along with the basegame building assets to build in Starfield.
One thing I've learned in over 30 years of playing and creating in video games is that not all assets are created equal. To discover hidden quirks in the items available to us, I've twisted, spun, realigned, pushed, and stacked them all until their secrets were uncovered. We can now use them to our advantage and start building (and thinking) outside of the box.
Please Note: Some of these tricks may get "fixed" in future patches and updates, so keep that in mind as you play around with the items.

Floating Items Glitch
If you're unfamiliar with the "floating in mid air" glitch for lootable items in our inventory, here's a brief rundown:
Drop an item from your inventory. Then open the Build Menu and build something (could be a shelf, table, bed, or whatever).
While still in the Build Menu pick up one of the items you've dropped from your inventory and place it on the shelf or whatever piece of furnishing you've created.
Exit the Build Menu and fast travel out of the zone.
Fast travel back, open up the Build Menu and remove or delete the furnishing that you originally built. The lottable items from your inventory should still be there, suspended in mid air.
TIP: This only works for lootable items placed on buildable items using the Build Menu
Inventory items including books and folders place on shelves while in the Build Menu before fast traveling out of the zone.
Items floating in space when you fast travel back and remove the supporting shelves.
It's a feature, not a bug!
Using rugs & mats to avoid collision constraints, build bridges, move items, and fuse items together.

Create "floating" cabinets, and seamless shelves.
Create borders, archways, and other cool structures with the cement-looking planters and small, square pedestal.
They come in 3 sizes, have tall ceilings, and cool porches. What's not to love?!
Multi-uses for posters & pictures, including positioning sinks, and finding alternative to structural walls.
