Ignoring Collision and Other Uses For Mats & Rugs

Placing the long rubber mat down on the bed in the Taiyo Captain's Quarters let me turn the alcove into a private armory.

Layering rugs and mats turns them into one item, which can be manuvered as a single item when picking them up by the Parent, or the item that was placed first.

This also means that the Parent item is the only one which requires support.

Useful as walkways, decks, etc

How-To

  • Place a mat or rug and then layer each rug on top of the previous one, just enough so that they overlap at the meeting point.

  • To move, pick up by the Parent item to move them as a single unit.

Avoiding Collision

Carpeting an area with obstacles like posts and corners is easier when moving rugs together.

Again, place the "Parent" rug down and overlap the second rug (or more if needed) and then slide them into place by picking up the Parent item. I've tried this with created a deck on the side of a hill and it worked well, but certainly took some patience.

Collision? What collision?

Successfully fused these two planters. Try to fuse these at an angle for interesting room dividers in larger spaces.

Smoothing Out Tough Transitions

Bridging the gap

Mats and Rugs can smooth out tough transitions between the landing pad and airlock, or on uneven entry ways as we can get when using the husbandry buildings.

Placing an airlock adjacent to a landing pad takes patience, and even then it may not be a smooth transition between the landing pad and the airlock walkway. A mat can help!

How-To

  • Place a mat or rug on the airlock walkway and slide it towards the landing pad, but ensure it is not touching it.

It really is as simple as that.

Moving Multiple Items

Layering items on top of rugs and mats turns them into one item, which can be manuvered as a single item when picking them up by the bottom object.

Any object placed on top of another will move if the bottom one is picked up, but using rugs to move groupings around makes it easier to experiment with different placements.

How-To

  • Place a mat or rug and then place objects on top so that they are at east partially resting on the rug.

  • To move, pick up by the rug (or bottom item) and move at will!
